Political Festival
The Political Festival returned to the Braga Youth Centre, from the 6th to the 8th of May, with face-to-face and online activities, presenting as its central theme Borders, be they psychological, physical, political or racial.
The Festival presented three days full of cultural activities, taking as example the shows, cinema, debates and presentations of projects, related to political borders and also to racism, disrespect for human rights, divisions that promote discrimination and intolerance towards others.
In this edition, the Political Festival has decided to work on accessibility and commitment to inclusion. Therefore, for the second consecutive year, the Braga Youth Centre was chosen to be the stage of this festival, thanks to its accessible space and its values based on the promotion of Human Rights, Creativity, Entrepreneurship, Citizenship, Youth Associations and non-formal education.
During the week, the Festival Política presented, on the stage of the Youth Centre, six free activities. On 6 May, at 6.30pm, a national premiere nominated for the Oscars 2021, more specifically the documentary "Colectiv - A Case of Corruption", was screened. Also on the same day, at 9:15pm, the stage of the Youth Centre hosted a performance by André Murraças called "Fronteiras", a solo consisting of several stories of struggle and persistence of people who left their country in search of a better life.
As for May 7th, it started at 6.30pm with the presentation of the project "travessia" (Ambigular) and the premiere of the documentary "Braga, an open door?" by the events producer Mooca Fixe. Still on the same day, at 7.30pm, the allegorical show about the concept of border, "Não cries esperança, ismos" was exhibited and, finally, at 9pm, Carlos Pereira went on stage with a humor show about daily life, discrimination and human rights.
To conclude the Festival, on 8 May, at 11am, a documentary/reportage entitled "Gypsy Revolution" was screened, the story of a team of young gypsy women from Braga who daily challenge and fight against the stereotypes in society.
It should be noted that all the activities presented by the Policy Festival are free of charge.
