Biscainhos’ Museum
The museum is located in the Palace of Biscainhos, was once a residence of the nobility in the 17th century. It is located near the Arch of the New Gate and the Cathedral of Braga , being an almost mandatory stop during the visit to the city of Braga.
Biscainhos Palace was built in 1712 by the architect and master mason Manuel Fernandes da Silva at the request of Dean Francisco Pereira da Silva.
The palace, the baroque gardens and its collections demonstrate how the everyday life of the eighteenth-century nobility and the other inhabitants of the space was: chaplains, servants and slaves.
With the permanent exhibition, it is possible to discover the decorative arts collections, such as furniture, goldsmithery, ceramics, glassware, textiles, metals, musical instruments, instruments of transport, engravings, sculpture/carvings, tiles and paintings, from the 17th century and the first quarter of the 19th century.
