Braga Youth Centre joins European project linking youth, colonial memory and climate justice

The Braga Youth Centre hosted one of the activities of the European project ZA4NED, which brought together participants from several countries in Braga to discuss the challenges of disinformation, social media and young people’s democratic participation in the digital age.

Between 28 September and 1 October, Braga hosted an international activity of the European project ZA4NED, promoted by EducPro and involving representatives from Spain, Hungary, Estonia, Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia.

The initiative brought into discussion some of the main challenges currently shaping young people’s relationship with the digital environment, ranging from disinformation and media literacy to civic participation, political dialogue and digital democracy.

The Braga Youth Centre was part of the programme, hosting the workshop “Bridging Generations, Countries & Digital Realities”, which included the participation of students from Braga.

The session created a space for reflection and dialogue on how different generations and countries experience digital realities, encouraging young people to develop a more critical approach to the information they consume and share and to reflect on their own role as citizens in the digital space.

The programme also included an Open Space with Fernando Vieira, from FNAJ, Bruna Sismeiro, from ESN Minho, and Diogo Vieira, from FAJUB, as well as the activity “Crisis in the Digital Public Square”, focused on responses to disinformation.

The session “Expert Insights: Navigating the Digital Public Square”, with Vítor de Sousa and Margarida da Silva Carvalho, explored in greater depth issues related to media literacy, journalism, disinformation and civic participation.

At a time when an increasing share of information, public debate and young people’s own participation takes place through digital platforms, initiatives of this nature contribute to the development of critical thinking, media literacy and digital citizenship skills.

By hosting this ZA4NED activity, the Braga Youth Centre also reinforces its role as a space for non-formal education, youth participation and European dialogue, providing young people with opportunities to discuss the challenges that shape their present and future.

The initiative also contributes to the international dimension of the CJB, promoting the exchange of knowledge, closer connections between young people and European organisations, and the development of more informed, critical and active youth participation.
